Ancient lore supposes that there exist three Realms of Being: the Empyreal Chaos, the Celestial Spheres, and the Primordial Abyss. There are many different views on the Realms of Being, as those that die have imperfect knowledge of the cosmos and rely on the lore of immortals, or the Elder Races. Though there is no single tradition of lore among Mankind, ancient Men supposed that there were more than three Realms of Being, including a 'Hidden Realm', which was shielded from those without the knowledge to peer into it.
Most scholars of Laredhidan look to Elf Lore - the vast collection of wisdom and knowledge of the Elves - for answers on the Realms of Being. The Great Realm of Laredhidan had in its time collated the known wisdom of all of the Elder Races of Laredhidan, and with this great resource the Loremasters studied all they could of the Realms of Being. They knew there to be three of these realms: Tol Aradhin, from whence came higher matter; Tol Saodhir, from whence came the gods; and Tol Sadhaín, where dwell all that die.
Tol Aradhin corresponds to the Empyreal Chaos; this is the Realm between stars, where strange colors and unfathomable things dwell. It is known variously as the Black Gulf, the Void, and the House of Nothing. This Realm's inhabitants are known as the Sadheach, or Empyreans, and research into them was forbidden by royal decree. The Sadheach are dangerous, monstrous, and forbidden by the Divine Order.
Tol Saodhir corresponds to the Primordial Abyss; the Loremasters proposed that the gods originated in the Primordial Abyss and created Tol Sadhaín out of the 'lesser matter' that dwelt there. When the gods and goddesses left Tol Saodhir, a new generation of deities crawled out of its blackness. These gods are known to Men as the Demon Lords, and to the Elves as the Tírnen Dodhain. Demons dwell in Tol Saodhir, and their summoning and counsels were forbidden by the Elven Kings. It is known as the Primeval Chaos and the House of Pain.
Tol Sadhaín corresponds to the Celestial Spheres; this is the Realm where mortals live and die, and within hidden places of Tol Sadhaín are where the gods dwell and the Afterlife is located. It is known as the Girdle of Suns, the Field of Stars, and the House of Life. It is here that the world of Caredhel and its shining sun are located.
